#22: Anna Meredith – Nautilus

Scottish wunderkind Anna Meredith has been toiling away in the classical world for over a decade, and by all accounts she had become suffocated by the control and conservatism that it had imposed upon her. She began composing more and more aggressive and expressive electronic music, collected this year in her superlative debut album ‘Varmints’. This opening track is a neat summary of her rage, calling to mind Battles and Vitalic. It first appeared online in 2012, but this completed version is the best and most coherent recording, and announced Anna as a major voice in the electronic music world.
