There’s nobody in the UK right now who is quite like Kojey Radical. He began writing poetry around four years ago, and starting applying his words to music a year later. He insists he isn’t a rapper, and I would tend to agree. He speak-sings his ferocious, politically lacerating words, and alongside London MC PW, he has made perhaps the most defiant and articulate social statement of the year in British music, with the help of Greatness Jones, whose claustrophobic, oppressive production sets the mood and prepares the ears for the dark dose of reality that Kojey has in store. The video alone is a masterpiece, directed by East London arts collective The Rest. Kojey’s EP ’23 Winters’ is essential listening for this of all years.
