#26: Floating Points – Kuiper

Floating Points is a complete one-off. The man behind the project is Sam Shepherd, a Mancunian who splits his time between making stunning electronic music and working as a neuroscientist. Last year he released the stupendous album ‘Elaenia’, one of the most emotionally expressive albums of the decade so far. This year, his primary release was this 18-minute piece of music that has further expanded his already unreasonably expansive palette. It has a looping, motorik rhythm to it that inevitably will call to mind the German masters of the 70s, but in fact, this is a very 21st century production, with an unlimited array of textures and moods at his disposal thanks to his preternatural grasp of the technology on offer. Sit back, and let this soak into you.
